All
of the stages below are controlled through a secure web-based moderator's
console. This is accessible from anywhere with internet access. |
|
Stage
1 - The Brief: |
This
can be taken in the traditional way with a face to face meeting between
consultant and client, but if costs need to be kept down, or geography is
a limitation, then the on-line briefing form can be used. At this stage
the intended outcomes of the research are agreed. |

2 - Member Recruitment:

Approximately
12 contributors is an ideal number - any less and the group dynamic
doesn't work, many more and some people tend not to contribute. We need a
list of about 20 e-mail addresses from you, and we will recruit 12.
Ideally you should give us all the e-mails of the population you wish to
research, and we would generate a sample based on sound research
techniques. This takes a bit longer to do but can be worthwhile. |
|
Stage
3 - Generating Issues: |
The
moderator's task is to draw out the issues affecting your customer base
bearing in mind your brief agreed in Stage 1. As in traditional focus
groups, it's very important for the moderator to strike a balance between
free discussion and keeping to the point. This stage typically lasts one
week. The great advantage of eFocusgroups is that if the moderator feels
that more work needs to be done, he or she can get the group's agreement
to an extension of this stage. Normally that would be a few extra days to
discuss some issues that hadn't been fully explored |
|
Stage
4 - Collation: |
The
moderator now spends time formulating the issues raised into a series of
questions. Some of these questions will have yes/no answers and some will
have a spectrum of agreement type of response. Typically around 80 to 100
issues may be formulated in this way. The eFocusgroups admin console
speeds this process, and automatically generates an on-line questionnaire. |
|
Stage
5 - Questionnaire: |
All
group members are made aware of the web questionnaire that has been
developed as a result of their discussions. Generally they are very eager
to see this and complete it, as they have been involved in effect in
developing it. |
|
Stage
6 - Analysis and Reporting: |
eFocusgroups'
admin system automatically captures the results, shows the moderator which
participants have not yet responded and, when all answers are in, performs a relatively
simple mathematical analysis of the results. This averages scores and then
sorts the issues into order of importance or level of agreement. The
moderator then pulls this information into a report that includes an
analytical commentary. The eModerator can drill down to greater
detail in the questionnaire answers - click

 |
Customise the
questionnaire. Your logo can be included on the on-line questionnaire
that all participants fill in at stage 5. This is particularly useful
if you are an agency wishing to maintain the professional appearance of all
your documentation
|
 |
Drill-Down.
The normal way of presenting the analysis from the questionnaires is to keep
it very qualitative and simply show the list of issues in ranked order of
importance. But if your group had sufficient numbers (say 15 or 16)
you may like the option of digging down a bit further into a statistical
analysis. The Drill-Down option presents you with all the answers to a
particular question, in graphical format. The degree of variability in
the range of answers is also calculated.

 |
eModerator
shadowing - if it's your first time moderating a group on-line you might
like some real time support. eModerator shadowing provides you with an
on-line expert who is an invisible part of your group. The 'shadow'
can keep an eye on how your eFocusgroup is going and make private
suggestions to you about how to get the results you need.
